Stabbing death of 18-year-old man is city’s fourth homicide of year

Edmonton’s medical examiner has confirmed the death Sunday of a 18-year-old as the city’s fourth homicide of 2013.

Mohamed Jama Salad of Edmonton died of multiple stab wounds, an autopsy confirmed Monday. Police have no suspects in Salad’s death.

He was attacked in an alley in the area of 138th Avenue and 94th Street.

Few details have been released, but police said paramedics responding to a call found Salad’s body inside a vehicle at 11:20 a.m. Salad was being driven to hospital by friends, but the group only made it about eight blocks before pulling into a parking lot near 133rd Avenue and 97th Street.

It’s not clear how much time elapsed between the fight and the discovery of his body.

Friends of Salad’s have turned to social media, meanwhile, to mourn his death, taking to Twitter and Facebook to express disbelief.

“RIP the good die young and you were the best! Can’t believe this,” one friend wrote on Facebook.

Added another: “( Y)ou were a great friend and loyal guy. You were a brother to me. ... You’ll be missed, remembered by your loved ones.”

Police taped off an alley along 138th Avenue as a crime scene and spent much of Sunday investigating the area.

Detectives returned to the area again on Monday to search for clues.

“What happened in the events prior to the call, I don’t have that information,” police spokeswoman Noreen Remtulla said Sunday.

“That’s all part of the investigation.”
