Truck forces sheri into barrier on QEII

AIRDRIE — An Alberta sheriff and a passerby got more than they bargained for during a violent encounter with a pair of motorists.

Airdrie RCMP say the sheriff was responding to a complaint of an erratic driver on the QEII Highway near Carstairs and tried to pull the vehicle over. However, the truck carrying two males veered toward the sheriff’s vehicle, sending it into a cable barrier separating the lanes.

The suspects fled but broke down on a nearby rural road, where a passing motorist who stopped to help was assaulted and his truck stolen. Both suspects, now in custody, are known to police and charges are pending.
