Too many jobs being lost

Re: “RBC denies shifting jobs to foreigners; Bank’s hiring practices face federal scrutiny,” the Journal, April 8. This is such a disjointed action by the Royal Bank of Canada and the sad thing is it is not isolated. Similar moves are being made by other employers.

A recent article said about 57,000 jobs have been lost in the last six months.

The federal government is cutting department staff while spending millions on the Canada Job Action Plan. Am I missing something here?

In Alberta, front-line health-care profession­als are being laid off while Alberta Health Services executives receive bonuses. School boards must struggle with less funds and will be forced to shelve good programs and lay off teachers.

While I believe in encouragin­g Canadians to learn skilled trades, it is ironic so many people are losing jobs, especially in essential areas such as education and health care. Michelle Bentt, Edmonton
