Cable rms post modest growth

GATINEAU, QUE. — Cable companies reported modest growth in revenues and subscriber­s over the past year, while satellite companies saw a decline in both categories, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommun­ications Commission said Tuesday.

The CRTC says the number of Canadian households subscribin­g to basic television service offered by cable companies increased by two per cent to reach 8.7 million for the year ended last Aug. 31. At the same time, Canadian households subscribin­g to a satellite company’s basic television service decreased by 1.8 per cent to 2.8 million.
