RE D SHOE S !

Now that we’ve got your attention, here’s a chance to help one of the best-known fans of red shoes — Ronald McDonald — along with the young professionals who make up the Red Shoe Society, a group that raises funds for Ronald McDonald House of northern Alberta.

They’re hosting a Red Shoe Crawl on Whyte Avenue that has more to do with food than fashion, though you’re welcome to wear your own red shoes to the festivities if you like.

The June 9 event starts with registration in McIntyre Park at noon.

For $40, participants receive a passport with a map of participating businesses on and around Whyte Ave that will be offering smaller-sized portions of food and drink to Red Shoe crawlers.

Tickets are available online at rssna.ca.

Ronald McDonald House northern Alberta is a 16-bedroom home offering affordable accommodation and support to families of critically-ill children who must travel to Edmonton for medical care.

LET THE MARKET MADNESS BEGIN

Expect the 104th Street area downtown to be hopping Saturday with the outdoor city market and indoor Mercer Collective running at the same time.

The Mercer makers’ market started as a monthly market earlier this year in the basement of the Mercer Warehouse, at 10359 104th St.

Now it’s running twice a month, including this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with about 40 craft vendors, artists and musicians. The outdoor farmers market runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along 104th Street north of Jasper Avenue and along 102nd Avenue.

The 124th Street Grand Market also kicked off this week and will continue every Thursday until Oct. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with crafts, produce, prepared food, food trucks and live entertainment on 108th Avenue at 124th Street.

FIFTY- PLUS FASHIONS

If you’re among those who are sometimes irked that fashion shows seem to favour the younger set, here’s an event to note on your calendar: the St. Albert 50+ Club is hosting a fashion show June 8. In addition to the latest styles for the more mature, the event will include a wine bar, fabulous desserts, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw. Tickets are $25 each for the event at the club, at 7 Tache St. in St. Albert and are available at the front desk, or by calling 780-459-0433.

HOT TOP S FOR A GOOD CAUS E

So maybe it’s not the time of year to bundle up in sweaters, but it’s a great time to buy one for fall and support struggling families in Bolivia. Check out the Minkha sweater sale June 15 at the Windsor Park community hall (11840 87th Ave.)

The beautiful, intricately knit sweaters for women, men and children come in warm-andwoolly alpaca and in lighter Pima cotton, all handmade by members of a women’s knitting cooperative in Bolivia through Save the Children Canada. All proceeds from the sale of the sweaters, shawls and scarves will go to the women and their families.

STYLE AMID THE F LOWERS

Dasee Floral Boutique is bringing summer indoors by hosting a cocktails and fashion event on May 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The evening will feature both a curated indoor garden and fashions by local designer Kelsey McIntyre from Serendipity. In addition, you can sip on tasty cocktails while enjoying the various art, horticulture and live entertainment that will be on-site.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling 780447-3325 or emailing design@ dasee.ca.

You must be 18+ to attend.
