ANGELA BUGERA MATHESON

Bugera Matheson Gallery is turning another corner, moving to 124th Street.

Last fall, Agnes Bugera Gallery rounded a major symbolic bend as mother Agnes transferred operation of the art gallery to her daughter Angela Bugera Matheson.

“When I took the gallery over it didn’t have a lease,” the 50-year-old Bugera Matheson explains, “and I wasn’t sure what it was going to be. When that came through I evaluated where I was at and essentially found a space I feel I can really grow into.

“It’s a newly renovated build- ing. It’s going to be a beautiful space. I get to build it out exactly the way that I want to. For all of those reasons it’s better for the business.”

“I evaluated and essentially found a space I feel I can really grow into.”

Opening in July, the new Bugera Matheson at 10345 124th St. will be across from Scott Gallery and Bearclaw Gallery, which is owned by her sister Jackie, next to Audio Sense in Princeton Place. Douglas Udell Gallery is across the street to the west.

“It was absolutely my intention to find a place still on the Gallery Walk. I’m still on the Gallery Walk Association, very actively. That was really important to me.”

The gallery was at the old spot at 12310 Jasper Ave. for 20 years. Art for Large Spaces and Lofty Places, opening June 1, will be the last show there. For the grand opening around the corner on July 4, “I haven’t decided yet,” Bugera Matheson laughs. “It will be more than one gallery artist and it will be new work.”
