Seniors are the new road warriors in the world of music.

After a bunch of local appearances by members of the 65-and-older men’s club — Paul McCartney, John Fogerty, Roger Waters, Bob Seger — it’s the women’s turn.

Country legend Loretta Lynn, 81, and Greek jazz-pop sensation Nana Mouskouri, 78, will both stop in Edmonton on their respective tours.

Lynn, forever known as the Coal Miner’s Daughter, will perform Saturday, Oct. 26 at River Cree. Tickets are $59.50 plus service charges at rivercreetickets.com. A pre-sale starts Monday — check River Cree’s Facebook page for the password. The general sale begins Wednesday.

The Kentucky native was singing about girl power decades before the Spice Girls, writing anthems such as You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man) (1965), Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind) (1966), and The Pill (1975).

Mouskouri is kicking off her next world tour on her 79th birthday — Oct. 13 — in Athens, Greece.

Edmonton fans will have to wait a bit to give her birthday wishes. The voice behind songs such as Weisse Rosen aus Athen (White Rose of Athens), Le Temps des Cerises, and Only Love will perform Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Jubilee Auditorium.

Tickets, from $46.50 to $125 plus service charges, at Ticketmaster.ca.

Mouskouri received the National Order of Quebec, for her contribution to the arts, and an honorary degree from Montreal’s McGill University earlier this week.
