Arena-poll activist to run for council

-

Nita Jalkanen, the private citizen who paid $5,000 to get a public survey done on arena opinions in May because she disagreed with council’s direction, is planning to run for council in Ward 2.

She’s the first candidate to declare in the ward to be vacated by Coun. Kim Krushell. Krushell announced this week she would not be running for re-election.

Jalkanen, an administrative assistant, called herself “one of the little people” when she sent her poll findings to the media and city councillors. She said she felt she was not being properly represented and wanted to gauge the opinions of other taxpayers.

She paid the firm Environics $5,000 to survey 300 adults on seven arena-related questions.
