Body recovered from river may be Pelss

-

A body was pulled from the Daugava River in Riga, Latvia, on Friday, fuelling fears that Edmonton Oilers prospect Kristians Pelss has drowned in his homeland.

According to a report on the news website, Apollo, identification of the deceased was still pending.

Pelss, 20, has been missing for days, and earlier this week, a report stated he had jumped off the Stone Bridge. Witnesses did report to the fire and rescue department that a man had jumped from the bridge on Tuesday, but divers and rescuers came up empty in the initial searches of the river.

A2010 draft pick, Pelss played with the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League and the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder this past season.

Players from the Oilers organization sent out messages with the hashtag #prayforpelss while the team released a statement that while they were awaiting all the facts, their thoughts and prayers were with the family.
