FC Edmonton is still having a close-but-no-cigar spring season.

The Eddies’ offensive struggles and late-game frustrations continued on the road Saturday in a 2-1 North American Soccer League setback to the San Antonio Scorpions.

The loss was just the latest disappointment for Edmonton in the goal-scoring department, as the NASL’s lowest-scoring team managed a goal or fewer for the 10th time this season.

The Eddies have now mustered just 10 goals in 11 games. Edmonton’s lone goal Saturday came from Daryl Fordyce, who evened the score in only the ninth minute after the Scorpions took a 1-0 lead less than six minutes in.

“I was disappointed in the goal we gave up, it was poor play and poor positioning,” Miller said at halftime. “I thought our reaction was excellent though and we looked very dangerous on the counterattack.”

Despite the boost provided by Fordyce’s answer, Edmonton fell victim to a late goal against for a second straight week after playing to a 1-1 draw with the Carolina RailHawks, who scored the equalizer in the 88th minute at Clarke Field. This time, however, the Eddies’ deflating moment would come even later, as Hans Denissen’s second goal of the game came in stoppage time. Edmonton, which sits at 2-5-4 (win-tieloss) and has been eliminated from contention, finishes the spring schedule at 2 p.m. Sunday against the Minnesota United FC at Clarke Field.
