Public school board chair to run again

Hoffman among many trustees seeking another term

Public school board chair Sarah Hoffman will run for re-election this fall along with about half of her colleagues from the ninetruste­e board.

Hoffman will launch her re-election campaign for Ward G this morning outside Rutherford School, at 8620 91st St., according to a news release.

She is among at least four public school trustees seeking re-election in the Oct. 21 municipal vote, along with Cheryl Johner in Ward A, Michael Janz in Ward F and Leslie Cleary in Ward I.

At least four public school board wards will have no incumbent this fall.

Ward C trustee Christophe­r Spencer and Ward H trustee Catherine Ripley don’t plan to run for reelection.

Ward D trustee Dave Colburn has announced he will leave the school board after nine years to run for a city council seat in Ward 7, where Coun. Tony Caterina is the incumbent.

Ward E trustee Heather MacKenzie also plans to seek a council seat, in Ward 6, where Coun. Jane Batty has said she will not seek re-election.

Ward B trustee Ken Shipka has not announced whether he will run again.

in Ward 76 and Laura Thibert in Ward 77.

Ward 73’s Cindy Olsen has not confirmed if she will run again.

Board chair Becky Kallal will not run for another term.

“It was a really hard decision because I really, really love this work,” said Kallal, who has served six years as a trustee.

“I really feel I’ve grown and expanded my own horizons through this work and been able to do some real good for the district with some of my thinking and my initiative­s.”
