City man on Amazing Race Canada
At least one Edmontonian will race across the country for a chance at a $500,000 grand prize in the first Amazing Race Canada.
One of the first two teams announced June 24 is made up of Cory Mitic, 32, from Edmonton, and his brother Jody, an Ottawa-based Canadian Forces veteran who lost both legs below the knee when he stepped on a landmine in Afghanistan.
According to a release from CTV, after the accident in Afghanistan in 2007, “Cory was by Jody’s side during his recovery and then relocated to Alberta to take a job five years ago. The distance has been hard on the brothers and they’re looking forward to re-establishing their strong bond.”
Cory, 36, who was a sniper for the Canadian Forces, was taking part in five-kilometre charity runs a year after he got his prosthetic feet.
“It’s obviously going to be a challenge,” Jody says, “but we’re going to have to overcome that with determination.”
Cory works in Edmonton as a labour relations officer and says in his Amazing Race bio that his strengths are “conflict resolution, singing and negotiations.” He lists his fears as “falling and eating strange things.”
CTV also revealed the names of two other contestants on June 24 — Kristen Idiens and Darren Trapp, a dating couple from Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C. who are outdoor enthusiasts. Trapp was born in Bassano, east of Calgary.
A total of nine teams will compete; three more teams will be announced June 25, two teams on June 26 and the final two pairings on June 27.
The show, which will be hosted by Olympic champion Jon Montgomery, will begin airing on CTV Monday, July 15. Thousands of Canadians auditioned for the show.
