Corrie star denies attacks

-

Coronation Street star William Roache told a British court that not only has he never sexually assaulted anyone, he doesn’t even know his alleged victims.

The beloved 81-year-old soap-opera star — who has portrayed Ken Barlow on Corrie for more than 50 years — is on trial in Preston, England, for a series of rapes and sexual assaults involving girls under 16 between 1965 and 1971.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

One of the alleged victims claims she was accosted in Manchester’s Granada Studios where Corrie is filmed but Roache told the court that was nearly impossible.

“It was an extremely difficult and dangerous thing to do. Any noise or cough and a recording could be gone,” Roache testified.

“I didn’t want anybody in the dressing room. I needed to concentrate totally on lines and focus on what I needed to do.”
