Only in Canada?

- A lex Stra chan

Wednesday’s Only in Canada episode of Dragons’ Den is devoted to innovations that could only be possible in Canada, as host Dianne Buckner tells us, giving the Dragons a chance to show their true national colours.

The first pitch is a Yukon gold scheme, ‘a boutique hotel experience in the wilderness ...’ — complete with honky-tonk piano and dancing showgirls. Arlene Dickinson, Jim Treliving, Bruce Croxon and David Chilton seem entertained; Kevin O’Leary, meanwhile, already appears to have a balloon forming over his head with the words, “Yes, but where do I make money?”

O’Leary says and does outrageous things, all in the name of fiscal responsibility, while the others hoot ’n’ holler and show him a measure of disrespect. (CBC — 8 p.m.) ❚ Republic of Doyle features a semi-crossover episode with Murdoch Mysteries that’s both clever and heartwarming. Yannick Bisson appears as Toronto detective Bill Murdoch, in Newfoundland on the trail of a kidnapper. (CBC — 9 p.m.) ❚ Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials 2014 shows audience favourites from past Super Bowl years, including the Doritos Princess Party ad. (CBS — 9 p.m.) ❚ HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher host and avowed liberal Bill Maher joins conservative-leaning Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, a little more than a week before Leno’s official farewell. (NBC, CTV Two — 12:35 a.m.)
