Alberta earns a ‘D’ in red-tape report
The Alberta government’s efforts at cutting red tape have drawn a poor mark from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
The group’s fourth annual Red Tape Report Card, released Tuesday, gave Alberta a D, down from last year’s D+. The report card assesses how governments measure and report on the regulatory burden placed on business.
“Red tape reform has a simple formula: measure, report, repeat,” said CFIB executive vice-president Laura Jones. “You can’t get where you’re going if you don’t know where you are.”
B.C. was the province to receive an A, while the federal government, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick received B-range marks. The rest received grades of C or less.
