Life term for man who killed ex-lover’s husband
CALGARY — A man faces deportation back to the Philippines once he has served a life sentence for the slaying of his former lover’s husband.
Franco Sevandal was convicted this week of seconddegree murder in the stabbing death of Joel Zalsos on Jan. 4, 2011.
Zalsos was murdered less than a month after he arrived in Calgary to be with his wife Divina (Bing) Carburtan, with whom Sevandal was having an affair.
Sevandal was this week sentenced to life, with no chance of parole for 12 years.
