Alberta announces 2,500 km of roadwork

The provincial government says it is investing $5 billion over the next three years to “expand and rehabilita­te” provincial highways. According to the transporta­tion department, more than 2,500 kilometres of highways will see work done as part of the plan to increase load limits and improve travel. The northern Alberta projects include:

❚ Completion of the Highway 63 twinning by the fall of 2016

❚ A three-kilometre passing lane northbound on Highway 40 between Grande Cache and Grand Prairie

❚ More than 200 kilometres of road repair on Highways 2, 1 6, 40, 43, 44, 55, 60 and 881 ❚ Twinning of Highway 43 through Sturgeon Lake

❚ Completion of a roundabout at Highways 44 and 633, and paving on Highway 88

❚ Improvemen­ts to the Meikle River bridge and the Redwillow Bridge on Highway 722
