Alberta announces 2,500 km of roadwork
The provincial government says it is investing $5 billion over the next three years to “expand and rehabilitate” provincial highways. According to the transportation department, more than 2,500 kilometres of highways will see work done as part of the plan to increase load limits and improve travel. The northern Alberta projects include:
❚ Completion of the Highway 63 twinning by the fall of 2016
❚ A three-kilometre passing lane northbound on Highway 40 between Grande Cache and Grand Prairie
❚ More than 200 kilometres of road repair on Highways 2, 1 6, 40, 43, 44, 55, 60 and 881 ❚ Twinning of Highway 43 through Sturgeon Lake
❚ Completion of a roundabout at Highways 44 and 633, and paving on Highway 88
❚ Improvements to the Meikle River bridge and the Redwillow Bridge on Highway 722
