Weekend assault victim in induced coma

A 42-year-old man who was allegedly randomly beaten in southwest Edmonton early Saturday is now in a medically induced coma, police say.

Police responded to the Calgary Trail Medicentre parking lot at 10407 51st Ave. about 1:15 a.m., where they found an unconscious man in serious physical distress. The victim was waiting for a friend when he was approached by several men who beat him up, police said.
