-

Chita Rivera, the Tony Awardwinning musical theatre artist whose breakthrough came in the 1957 Broadway première of West Side Story, is bringing her one-woman show to Edmonton’s Jubilee Auditorium for a single performance June 2.

Chita: A Legendary Celebration, a solo song-and-dance celebration fashioned from a storied career in honour of her 80th birthday, is part of Legends of Broadway, a three-concert series of one-woman shows by iconic Broadway stars, presented as a fundraising benefit for Jewish Family Series. Megan Hilty Sings Broadway’s Smash Hits and More follows, on June 16. And the finale is Andrea Martin in Final Days! Everything Must Go! on Oct. 5.

Hilty, who made her Broadway debut in 2004 as Glinda the Good Witch opposite Idina Menzel in Wicked, went on to star in Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5: The Musical, with Allison Janney and Stephanie J. Block, and joined the cast of NBC’s Smash, about the creation of a Broadway musical.

American-born Martin, who won a 2013 Tony Award for her role in the acrobatic Broadway revival of the musical Pippin, is a Second City and SCTV veteran with a long list of Canadian theatre awards and credentials onstage and onscreen. Currently in the Global TV comedy series Working the Engels, and working on the upcoming Lincoln Centre Theatre première of Act One, the 67-year-old Martin assembles a raft of favourite characters — Edith Prickley, Pirini Scleroso, Edna Boil, Mrs. Falbo — for Final Days! Everything Must Go!

Tickets are available from Ticketmaster, with a 20 per cent discount for series subscribers.
