Coin honours author Munro

VICTORIA — The Royal Canadian Mint has released a limited-edition silver coin honouring Nobel Prizewinning author Alice Munro.

The $5-coin, unveiled at a ceremony at the Greater Victoria Public Library, features an open book containing passage’s from Munro’s The View from Castle Rock, as the outline of a woman emerges from a pen that is held to the page.

Only 7,500 of the coins will be minted, and they can be purchased for $69.95 each. The mint is also donating $10,000 to the Writers’ Trust of Canada in Munro’s name. Munro became the first Canadian to win the literature prize last year.
