Ford wants to lose weight with upcoming Taurus
As one of the few full-sized family sedans on the market, the next-generation Ford Taurus is expected to undergo some significant changes next year.
A new report out of Edmunds suggests the new Taurus, expected late next year as a 2016 model, will be much lighter than the outgoing generation in a bid to improve fuel economy. Ford expects to significantly reduce weight in the new model with a front-wheeldrive platform largely based on the Fusion, but stretched to accommodate the Taurus’s proportions.
In addition to the new platform, the 2016 Taurus is expected to be fitted with a nine-speed automatic transmission to further improve fuel economy and reduce curb weight. Other powertrain details, such as what we can expect to see under the hood, are still unknown.
