More horses, torque fuel new Boxster and Cayman GTS models
Proving you don’t always need frills to enjoy performance, Porsche has unveiled a duo of no-nonsense GTS models for the Boxster and Cayman family.
The GTS models, short for Gran Turismo Sport, have a handful of performance upgrades.
Both are powered by 3.4-litre flat-six engines from the S models, but are tweaked to produce more horsepower and torque.
The Boxster GTS pumps out 330 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, while the Cayman GTS is a touch more powerful, pumping out 340 horsepower and 280 lbft. of torque.
Sure to appease purists, the Boxster and Cayman GTS can be had with a six-speed-manual transmission.
O fcourse, if lightning-quick shift times are what you’re really after, Porsche’s PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is optional.
With the PDK and the standard Sport Chrono package, the Boxster GTS does the zero-to-100 km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds, while the Cayman GTS is a one-tenth quicker at 4.3. Porsche’s Active Suspension Management(PASM) system rounds out the standard performance upgrades.
A set of unique front and rear bumpers, wheels, headlights and blackedout tailpipes set the GTS models apart visually from the standard Boxster and Cayman.
The cosmetic changes continue inside with a headliner, centre console, steering wheel and seat inserts finished in Alcantara.
Being special edition models, these GTS variants are also fitted with the requisite Porsche GTS badging, inside and out.
The Boxster and Cayman GTS arrive in Canada this summer, starting at $83,900 and $85,900, respectively.
