More details on city sta pay coming

-

Mayor Don Iveson says he has asked city manager Simon Farbrother to outline how many municipal staff fall into each pay category.

But he doesn’t want to create a “sunshine list” demanded by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation showing names and incomes of everyone making more than $100,000.

“If your agenda is to undermine public service and delegitimize the work public servants do, then that’s a good strategy,” Iveson said Tuesday.

“I’m not interested in that. We employ thousands of hard-working professionals and emergency responders who earn above $100,000 a year, and I’ll defend that without hesitation.”

Releasing too many specifics can also cause disruption on the job, Iveson said.

The city already posts pay ranges, Iveson said. He wants to go a step farther by giving the number of staff in each classification.
