Running game still a work in progress

-

While rookie running back Tyler Thomas rushed for only 73 yards on 21 carries during the first two games of the season, the competition is lining up behind him.

Besides sophomore John White, who is on the onegame injured list, the Eskimos recently added Kendial Lawrence and then picked up former Montreal Alouettes running back/kick returner Noel Devine on Tuesday.

“Great athlete, multiple positions and can be a returner,” Jones said about Devine, 26, who played half a dozen games each of the last two seasons with the Als.

Asked about the status of his running game, Jones said: “It’s still a work in progress. If you look statistically, we’re around seventh or eighth (in the league). Certainly, there’s been some runs there that we’ve missed and then we have to block a little better.”
