GAMES THIS WEEK
CALGARY (3-0) at EDMONTON (4-0)
Thursday, 7 p.m., TSN
Keys to the game: The Edmonton Eskimos face another test in a battle of unbeaten teams for the second consecutive week. The Eskimos need to continue pressuring the passer as they did Thursday while bouncing the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers 26-3.
Players to watch: The contest features two of the league’s emerging quarterbacks — the Calgary Stampeders’ Bo Levi Mitchell (who has a 6-0 record as a starter, dating back to last season) and Edmonton’s multi-faceted Mike Reilly (who rushed 10 times for a game-high 96 yards against Winnipeg).
WINNIPEG (3-1) at B.C. (2-2)
Friday, 8 p.m., TSN
Keys to the game: The Bombers have struggled to protect quarterback Drew Willy, even while winning their first three games. Winnipeg will also have to solve a Lions offence that has overcome a shaky start under the direction of quarterback Kevin Glenn.
Players to watch: The Bombers’ Nic Grigsby has quickly emerged as a premier all-purpose back. The same applies to the Lions’ Andrew Harris, who is contributing on hand-offs and as a receiver.
OTTAWA (1-2) at HAMILTON (0-3)
Saturday, 5 p.m., TSN
Keys to the game: The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who have been beset by injuries and miscues this season, have to start resembling the team that represented the East Division in the 2013 Grey Cup. Otherwise, the Tiger-Cats will find themselves two games behind a first-place expansion team — the Ottawa Redblacks.
Players to watch: Brett Maher accounted for all of his team’s points Friday when Ottawa defeated the Toronto Argonauts 18-17. Maher had six field goals, including a 23-yarder in the final minute that gave the Redblacks their first victory. The Tiger-Cats, who lost 10-7 in Calgary on Friday, need C.J. Gable to get on track. He rushed eight times for only six yards last week.
TORONTO (1-3) at SASKATCHEWAN (1-2)
Saturday, 8 p.m., TSN
Keys to the game: The Argonauts have to find a way to get it done without two premier inside receivers as Chad Owens and Andre Durie are both sidelined. The Saskatchewan Roughriders also need to demonstrate they have a passing attack in the absence of Weston Dressler, who is now with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Players to watch: This game features the last two Grey Cup-winning quarterbacks — Toronto’s Ricky Ray (2012) and Saskatchewan’s Darian Durant (2013). Neither team looks like a champion, partially because Ray and Durant lead offences with depleted arsenals.
