Friday, Oct. 17: Edmonton author Gordon Self launches his novel The Necessitie­s of Life, inspired in part by the work Covenant Health has done in developing newborn safe havens, 7 p.m., Audreys. Saturday, Oct. 25: Local author Konn Lavery signs his latest fantasy book Mental Damnation on Saturday, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27, 28: Cochrane author Fred Stenson brings his new novel Who By Fire, about a family affected by a sour gas processing plant in southern Alberta, to two local events. He appears at St. Albert’s StarFest on Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in Forsyth Hall; and at MacEwan University on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 12:30 to 2 p.m., downtown City Campus. Wednesday, Oct. 29: Rick Ranson presents his novel Bitterswee­t Sands, about his 24 days in the new wild west of Fort McMurray, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30: Former NHL goalie Clint Malarchuk presents his new book The Crazy Game: How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond, on Thursday, Oct. 30, 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1: Former Edmonton Oilers goalie Grant Fuhr signs copies of his book, Grant Fuhr: The Story of a Hockey Legend (Random House Canada), written with hockey journalist Bruce Dowbiggin, 10 a.m., Costco, 2616 91st St., 2 p.m. West Edmonton Mall, Chapters HMV stage.
