Sinterklaa­s (Saint Nicholas) is coming to town!

Give the gift of Holland with imported European and baked goods

Do you have a foodie on your Christmas list this year? Are you looking for that perfect little something for your Oma, emigrated from Holland all those years ago? Look no further than Dutch Delicious Bakery. With an expansive selection of baking and imported European goods, they have just the thing to make your family gathering extra special this year.

As a child, Siebe Koopman, owner of Dutch Delicious Bakery, was always fascinated by cooking, so he enrolled in a Dutch baking school.

“Baking something that people get excited about and take home with them is fabulous,” says Koopman.

At Dutch Delicious Bakery, Koopman focuses on providing his customers with traditiona­l tastes of Holland. Recently, Koopman noticed that a younger generation of Canadians with Dutch heritage are connecting with their roots through his products.

Koopman also focuses on providing his customers with meaningful connection­s to his products. “I’m not just supplying bread or Dutch groceries; I’m supplying emotions too,” says Koopman. “ ey could go anywhere for their groceries, but they come here for the connection­s.”

From the bakery, Koopman provides traditiona­l Dutch items, including almond stick and ring, which contains almond paste, surrounded by all-butter pu pastry. As wrapping, Koopman commission­ed a decorative box with his logo, which, together with the baking, makes a beautiful gi .

Also from the bakery, you’ll nd Christmas stollen, cake lled with a log of almond paste and dotted with currants and raisins, and almond lled speculaas, a thick ginger cookie lled with almond paste and topped with roasted almonds. You will be transporte­d to Holland with every bite.

Koopman also carries a large selection of European imports.

In Holland, every December 5th, it is tradition that Sinterklaa­s (Dutch for Saint Nicholas) drops chocolate initials down the chimneys for little girls and boys. A favourite tradition, the chocolate letters have become such a hot commodity that customers are now ordering theirs in August to ensure receipt.

Additional­ly, Dutch Delicious carries chocolate coins, Sinterklaa­ses and black peters, as well as the largest selection of liquorice (another Dutch favourite) in town. ey also carry traditiona­l German and Italian imports for other European clientele.
