Edmonton- Castle Downs
Nicole Goehring, NDP
Age: 38
Occupation: Social worker
Reason for running: “I care deeply about Castle Downs and call this community home. We have been raising our family here for 20 years and, as a social worker, I understand the challenges families face.”
Top priorities: Health care: Invest in hospitals that need repair; invest in front-line care; support seniors with more long-term care beds. Education: Invest in local schools for new students starting this September; ensure schools get the funding they need to meet the needs of our growing province; our plan focuses on reducing class sizes, cutting school fees by half, and creating a school lunch program to help deliver a nutritious meal to 22,000 students in the first year. Help create local jobs by rewarding businesses with a targeted job creation tax credit.

Todd Ross, Liberal
Age: 51
Occupation: Correctional peace officer
Reason for running: “I believe government needs strong, honest opposition. We have seen what four decades of one-party rule in Alberta has created: a government that is arrogant, sloppy, and entitled. We need opposition MLAs under the dome to keep the governing party on their toes, and to keep them accountable to all Albertans.”
Top priorities: Health-care professionals are doing their best, but they need better support from smart, effective governments, and that is simply not happening. Education: Alberta’s ongoing prosperity depends on the education of our children. Small class sizes, excellent teachers and sufficient school funding are crucial to help Alberta remain strong. Accountability: I will raise my voice when the government tries to shift unfair burdens onto citizens, at the same time they are cutting the services that citizens need.
