Edmonton- Meadowlark

-

Katherine O’Neill, Conservative

Age: 40

Occupation: Community volunteer/former journalist

Reason for running: “Public service is a noble and important calling and more people my age need to roll up their sleeves and get to work.”

Top priorities: Schools: The PC government has three new schools planned in Edmonton-Meadowlark. I will work to ensure these important infrastructure projects get built on time and on budget. The Misericordia Hospital: The PC government has committed $40 million to renovating the facility and expanding the emergency department. And I will strongly advocate for more to be done to improve patient care in the community. Affordable seniors housing: I will work with the city and important non-profit organizations such as GEF Seniors Housing to ensure the riding is building enough affordable seniors housing to meet the growing need.

Dan Bildhauer, Liberal

Age: 57

Occupation: Construction company co-owner

Reason for running: “I see time and time again government policies that are not really serving all Albertans and Canadians.”

Top priorities: Money should be provided to pay for renovations at the Misericordia Hospital, long-term beds for seniors and prevention programs. More schools are needed in the riding so parents don’t have to drive their kids so far to classes. Better funding for roads and public transit.

Jon Carson, NDP

Age: 23

Occupation: Commercial electrician

Reason for running: “What really got me involved is I felt our government doesn’t listen to the people, even when they say they are.”

Top priorities: Transparency: It’s important to see how the province spends money, because tax dollars go to publicity for the Progressive Conservatives. Misericordia Hospital: Better funding is needed for the facility, including infrastructure and staff support. Transportation: Larger grants to the city for such projects as the future west LRT line.

Top priorities: Standing up for patient-centred health care and senior care. Standing up for low taxes. Standing up for democracy and accountability in Alberta.
