Diana McQueen, PC Age: 53 Occupation: Minister of Municipal Affairs Reason for running: “I believe in working with my constituents on our collective priorities. Together we have accomplished a great deal: new seniors housing, water/waste water projects, highways, bridges, new schools and modernizations, value added and economic diversification in agriculture, forestry and energy. We still have more to accomplish in health care, seniors, education, transportation and growing our economy.”

Top priorities: Ensure facilities and supports for seniors and health care. Recruit more doctors and provide more services in rural Alberta. Continue to invest in education. Grow our economy and reduce waste while continuing to fund frontline workers. Open new markets and do more value-added in agriculture, forestry and energy.

Jennifer Roach, Green party Age: 32 Occupation: Legal assistant Reason for running: “I believe it is time to have people working in public office who are truly acting in the best interests of the public, at all times, and not just doing what is ‘best for business.’ I believe you can’t have a healthy economy without healthy people and a healthy planet.”

Top priorities: Listen to the wishes and concerns of Drayton Valley-Devon constituents and act on their behalf. Establish green, sustainable systems to avoid future problems. Create a participatory democracy where all votes count.

Mark Smith, Wildrose Age: 54 Occupation: Teacher Reason for running: “I believe that Alberta needs a new,

positive vision that will make us a stronger, more dynamic province built upon a foundation of democratic and fiscal accountability.”

Top priorities: Do democracy differently with policies like recall and free votes. Ensure a prosperous Alberta through fiscal prudence and balanced budgets, rather than debt, high taxes and misuse of taxpayer dollars. As a teacher with 30 years’ experience, I want to create a world-class education system to produce a prosperous economy.

Katherine Swampy, NDP Age: 29 Occupation: Tax officer Reason for running: “As a mother, I know the challenges families are facing under the Prentice PCs. With Rachel Notley and the NDP, we can make life better for families by standing up for what matters, like health care, education and seniors care.”

Top priorities: Invest in hospitals and front line care, cut wait times and provide more long-term care beds. Invest in schools, provide stable funding, roll back fees and create a lunch program. Reward job creators with targeted tax credits and reward businesses that process resources here at home.
