Backyard bees OK’d

Edmonton has decided keeping bees in the backyard is a honey of an idea.

Councillors approved bylaw changes without debate Tuesday that make it legal to have one hive in a rear yard. Owners will need a licence, must separate the hive from neighbours by a two-metre fence and can’t sell their honey.

While neighbours had to approve sites in a pilot program last fall, this provision isn’t part of the Animal Licensing and Control bylaw amendments.
