PCs, tear down this wall

The PC government continues to maintain an ideological wall that favours corporate welfare over the welfare of Albertans.

Ralph Klein constructed this wall based on the trickledown theory of economics, claiming a low tax regime for oil corporations would benefit all Albertans. But Albertans deserve more than a trickle compared with the vast profits gushing into corporations and their shareholders over the last decades. Increased royalties could provide more appropriate support of services for an ever-increasing population and also for economic diversification.

This ideological wall is an impediment to fostering creative government policy and practice. In the spirit of good governance, I paraphrase Ronald Reagan: “Mr. Prentice — tear down this wall.”
