Boutique financial advisory practice opens its doors

The Bowra Group chooses Edmonton

- By Liz Bruckner

Of all the cities in western Canada to choose from, it says something that The Bowra Group Inc. chose Edmonton to house its newest location. A financial advisory practice providing advice to companies in distress – their clients run the gamut from real estate and condo developers to pharmacies, logging companies and car dealerships – more than the picturesque skyline or up-and-coming business scene, it was Edmonton’s community feel that drew its owners east, says Doug Chivers, senior vice president of the boutique brand. “Our main office is located in Vancouver with two professionals with over 35 years of experience. We’ve been planning to expand for years, so Alberta felt like a good fit,” Chivers says. “The opportunity to be in a city that feels welcoming in spite of its large size perfectly suits our long-term goals.” Included in those goals is becoming the practice of choice for businesses experiencing financial difficulties. “We provide unbiased counsel services to companies requiring assessments of their financial situations, and most often are contacted by banks who have granted a loan to a business that in turn experiences monetary difficulties,” he says. “We tell our clients what they need to hear, rather than what they think they want to hear.”

After an all-encompassing business review is conducted, including an analysis of the business’ financial situation, the experts at The Bowra Group Inc. identify the underlying problems. Some of their services include business reviews, management assessments, and restructuring and assisting with capital and equity financing.

Edmonton is full of small and large businesses that we feel can benefit from our experience and expertise. We’re excited for the opportunity to become part of the local business community.
