Homes might be their passion, but Edmonton’s residential construction industry leaders were transported far from them during the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Edmonton Region 2015 Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala on Saturday, April 25.

A Bollywood theme welcomed nearly 1,900 industry professionals to the Shaw Conference Centre, celebrating the creative design and craftsmanship of Edmonton builders and renovators.

In total, 62 awards were presented during the Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala, recognizing excellence and professionalism in the field of building, design, renovation, sales and marketing within the home construction industry.

Attendees were immediately transported to the world of Bollywood, as colourful tablecloths, sumptuous decor, and extravagant musical numbers transformed the space and produced a lively and memorable evening. Guests were presented with traditional Indian scarves in a variety of colours and a bindi, a small dot applied to the centre of the forehead between the eyebrows.

Opening remarks were delivered by Jason Sutton, president of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Edmonton Region and director of sales and marketing manager of the Landmark Group of Companies. He welcomed everyone to the celebration, congratulating the industry on a wonderful year, introducing VIPs, and thanking sponsors and volunteers. Sharon Copithorne, CEO for the CHBA — Edmonton Region then brought attendees up to date on industry news.

The show started with a lively performance from the MKM Bollywood Dance Company, based in Los Angeles. The crowd was entertained with colourful and enthusiastic dance routines that enhanced the ‘Welcome To Bollywood’ theme.

The Professional Home Builders Institute presented the Buyers Choice Award. Highly anticipated major awards were saved for the end of the gala, as Aquarian Renovations was named Renovator of the Year. Vicky’s Homes was awarded Builder of the Year, Single Family — Small Volume, Homes by Avi took home the prize for Builder of the Year, Single Family — Large Volume, and Carrington Communities was named Builder of the Year — Multi-Family for the second consecutive year.
