Wine fest to offer up tastes of Chile this June
The Chilean Canadian Cultural Society (CCCS) of Edmonton is holding another edition of Salud! — A Taste of Chile Food, Wine and Culture on Friday, June 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Old Timers Cabin, 9430 99th St. (Scona Road).
The walkabout-style event will showcase a number of wines from several Chilean wineries including Vina Bisquertt, Casa Lapostolle, La Playa, Emiliana, Undurraga, Caliboro, Casa Silva, Los Vascos and Miguel Torres.
There are some excellent wines being sampled, including the Terroir Hunter series from Undurraga, Cuvee Alexandre from Casa Lapostolle, the always delicious sustainable wines of Emiliana and the small production Reserva de la Caliboro. Miguel Torres’ Pisco, always a favourite of guests, will also be poured.
Guests will also have the opportunity to sample a selection of traditional Chilean dishes and experience folklore dancing, an art exhibit by local Chilean artists and the music of Marco Claveria, who was a People’s Choice Award nominee for the Edmonton Music Awards.
The event was last held in 2013 and is a fundraiser to assist the society in their quest to build a community centre. Ticket price: $65. For information or to purchase tickets: cccs-secretary@outlook.com or eventbrite.ca/ event/16926408343/
INTERSTELLAR RODEO
Fast becoming one of the city’s favourite summer festivals, Interstellar Rodeo is back in Hawrelak Park at the Heritage Amphitheatre from July 24 to 26.
The festival has a great musical lineup and once again, I will be pairing wines with the performances of each of the artists.
It seems natural to draw parallels between the passion and creativity of winemakers and artists and the emotions they evoke.
The wine-and-music pairings will be listed in the event program and the wines will be served during the performances. Tickets: interstellarrodeo.com
