Fab Five | Summer fragrances

-

Summer scents aren’t all about coconut oil and sunscreen — although we’re fans of those smells, too. Thanks to a host of new fragrance releases, this season’s scent offerings have been given a sunny, sweet and sometimes floral upgrade. From sparkling fruit notes to an allout floral bouquet, spritz your way into summer with one of our five new favourites sprays, write Aleesha Harris and Michele Marko.

MOD MUSK

Intoxicating gardenia mingles with a base of creamy musk in the latest release from Marc Jacobs. Spiked with a starting scent of crisp greens, this scent is sexy without being too heavy. It sits lightly on the skin, yet lingers with a softly seductive scent for those sultry summer nights ahead. And the quirky bottle earns extra fashion points thanks to runway collection-inspired stripes.

F LOR AL FRUITS

This pretty pink perfume is a reimagined release of the iconic Oscar de la Renta fragrance, and is said to be inspired by the late fashion designer’s love for gardening. Flor eau de parfum is light and airy without being too fruity. We were impressed by the staying power of the fruityfloral top notes, which stayed noticeable throughout the day.

GO GRE EN

A new scent based on a “blend of wild fern and Himalayan cedar,” Nest Fragrances Verde Eau de Parfum aims to be sexy, elegant and exotic. Boasting an almost masculine undertone, thanks to the crisp green top notes, at first spritz, it evokes images of fresh-cut grass with a wedge salad-worth of wet wood on the side. Our tester was impressed with the way the somewhat spicy scent settled into a soft, feminine fragrance throughout the day. It may be green, but it’s the opposite of mean.

BEACHY BRIGHT

Invoke the sensory splendour of a beach day with the new eau de toilette from Thomas Sabo. The new summer scent addition to the brand’s Charm fragrance collection, Charm Rose Beach surprises with floral notes of freesia and pink peony — rather than the expected scent of rose. Riding on a wave of delicious citrus notes of orange and lemon, this warm, tangy scent is sweet without being sickly. It just might be the perfect summer smell.

SOFTLY S EDUCTIVE

Azzaro Pour Elle spritzes onto the skin light, flirty and floral but soon settles into a more sophisticated, weightier, warm scent that is both feminine and truly grownup. The floral woody amber signature is derived from lily, rose, cardamom, cashmere wood and olibanum incense.
