Knicks’ Anthony buys NASL team

NEW YORK — New York Knicks all-star Carmelo Anthony has bought an expansion team in the North American Soccer League. Puerto Rico FC will join the 12-team league — which has Canadian teams in Edmonton and Ottawa — next year and play at the 12,500-seat Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium, which is about 15 kilometres from the capital city of San Juan. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Other athletes who have invested in NASL clubs include Ronaldo and Paolo Maldini.
