10 DRAFT PICKS FOR THE OILERS
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — The Edmonton Oilers have a 10 picks, including the first choice overall, in the NHL entry draft at Sunrise, Fla. The draft gets underway at 5 p.m. MDT Friday with Round 1 and continues with Rounds 2 through 7 on Saturday. Barring any trades, the Oilers have the following selections: Round 1 No. 1 (won in the NHL draft lottery) No. 16 (acquired for David Perron in a January trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins) Round 2 No. 33 No. 57 (acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in the Jeff Petry trade deadline deal) Round 3 No. 79 (from the Ottawa Senators in the 2014 Ales Hemsky trade) No. 86 (via the St. Louis Blues in a 2013 trade that saw the Oilers acquire Perron in exchange for Magnus Paajarvi) Round 4 No. 117 (the second of two picks acquired in the Petry trade) Round 5 No. 124 Round 6 No. 154 Round 7 No. 184
(Note: The Oilers owe the Boston Bruins a secondround selection for hiring GM Peter Chiarelli, who’d been fired by the Bruins but was under contract. They also have to flip a thirdround selection to the San Jose Sharks for naming Todd McLellan head coach. However, the Oilers have three years to pay the compensatory picks, and it is Edmonton’s choice as to which draft it will be.)
