What You Get in ... Windsor Park

- Dylan Thompson Edmonton Journal

Despite being acquired during the annexation of the City of Strathcona in 1912, Windsor Park was not widely developed until the 1940s and 1950s. In 1955, the completion of the Groat Road Bridge gave area residents enhanced access to city parks and the downtown core. Like many neighbourhoods of the era, Windsor Park is composed almost entirely of single detached houses. The area is home to few businesses, but there are many popular and trendy areas just outside the neighbourhood’s borders.

Windsor Park is encircled between Saskatchewan Drive, Groat Road and 116 Street, just south of the North Saskatchewan River valley and directly west of the University of Alberta. Windsor Park Elementary school educates young residents, while Hawrelak Park and Emily Murphy Park are both within walking distance for leisure activities and festivals. The Royal Mayfair Golf Club is also close to Windsor Park. The Jubilee Auditorium and Whyte Avenue provide shopping and entertainment options, while the University Hospital is also nearby.
