An appealing variety of course options

Journal writer Julia LeConte shares her top five Edmonton golf experiences

-

1. RUNDLE PARK GOLF COURSE: Rundle is a beginner’s dream — 18 holes of Par 3s. For non-golfers, those are the shortest (and usually easiest) on any course. Might as well start the season with a low score, right? Bonus: Rundle is extra cheap for early birds: players willing to tee off before 8 a.m.

2. ELEVATED TEE BOXES AT VICTORIA: The course provides a couple of opportunities for breathtaking views, the best being Hole 14, where you gaze southward over the glorious River Valley.

3. OTTEWELL DRIVING RANGE: Just a bucket of balls and zero pretension. A good place to practice.

4. KINSMEN PITCH ’N’ PUTT GOLF COURSE: Want to practise your short game? Play a round for a fraction of the green fees you’d usually dole out? Bring the kids? This 18-hole course is tucked in behind Kinsmen Sports Centre off Walterdale Hill and costs only $8 during the week.

5. TWILIGHT GOLF: With its long daylight hours, Edmonton is one of the only cities where you can play 18 holes after 6 p.m. Quiet, cheap ($25 at Victoria) and — as long as you don’t lose your balls — totally Zen.
