The trial of a man accused of throwing a fatal sucker punch outside a Stony Plain bar two years ago continued in Court of Queen’s Bench on Wednesday, with two more witnesses testifying about the melee.

Court has heard that an altercation erupted outside the Old Bar at the Stony Plain Hotel around closing time on Sept. 27, 2013. Several witnesses have testified they saw Sean Kovacs-Harkins punch 30-year-old Travis Colby in the face.

Kovacs-Harkins, 21, is on trial for manslaughter.

Witness Jelena Hergott told court she was waiting outside for a ride when she noticed a commotion and two men shoving each other. One of the men was Kovacs-Harkins.

Hergott said Colby, a bouncer at the bar, went to break up the alter- cation. She said Kovacs-Harkins ran toward Colby from the side and “directly punched him straight in the face.”

“Travis fell completely straight back on his head. I’ve never seen anyone fall like that before,” she said.

Witness Michelle Davidson said she was standing outside with Colby after closing time when Colby tried to break up a dispute between Kovacs-Harkins and another man. Colby ended up in the middle of the road with the other man and the two were throwing punches at each other, Davidson said.

Kovacs-Harkins then ran toward the two men and hit Colby in the head, Davidson said.

Court has previously heard that Colby’s head cracked against the pavement.

He died days later in the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Travis fell completely straight back on his head. I’ve never seen anyone fall like that before.
