Single mom dead after vicious beating

- ANNALISE KLINGBEIL

CA LG ARY A “loving” mother of two was found beaten to death in the basement of her Ranchlands home on Sunday by her father, who came to visit his daughter’s residence with her children.

An emotional Leslie Whitehead described his daughter Christa Cachene, 26, as a devoted single mom, who loved exploring nature with her kids, at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

“She was a very loving mother… (She) was taken from us too soon,” Whitehead said.

Police officers were called to Cachene’s home on Ranchlands Bay N.W. on Sunday at about 5:30 p.m., after her father visited the house with Cachene’s two children.

“(Cachene’s) father discovered Cachene in the basement of her home where she had been viciously beaten,” Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the CPS Homicide Unit said.

Chisholm said police believe Cachene died early Sunday morning, following a small party at her Ranchlands townhouse on Saturday evening attended by between eight and 12 people.

On Wednesday, police released the name and photo of an 18-yearold guest officials want to speak with as part of the homicide investigation.

Police are seeking Isaiah Riel Rider, 18, of Calgary, who is also wanted on unrelated warrants for assault and breach of a conditional sentence order.

He is described by police as an aboriginal male, approximately 6’2” tall, 155 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Chisholm said only some party guests are co-operating with investigators.

Cachene’s devastated mom and dad — flanked at Wednesday’s press conference by Cachene’s brother, sister and other family members — urged anyone with information about their daughter’s murder to speak to authorities.
