Body inside car that of missing Edmonton man

- JANET FRENCH

Police are trying to find out how a missing Edmonton man wound up dead in a charred car in Lamont County.

RCMP consider Junior Morris Laidley’s death suspicious, said spokesman Cpl. Hal Turnbull.

“There’s a lot of reason to believe that (foul play) could be a possibility,” Turnbull said.

Laidley’ s friends last saw him Jan .4 in the Fort Saskatchewan area.

At around 5 p.m., Jan 10, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a report of a burned out BMW car on Township Road 572 around 45 kilometres northeast of Fort Saskatchewan. When police looked closely, they found human remains.

Three days later, Laidley was reported missing.

On Jan. 15, the medical examiner’s office identified the remains as Laidley’s. Police were not releasing the cause of his death.

“The investigative team is being very tight-lipped,” Turnbull said.

Laidley was found in a white, twodoor 2013 BMW 328i. It wasn’t his car, and belonged to someone he knew, Turnbull said. Although the owner reported it stolen after it had been missing for several days, police don’t believe Laidley stole the car.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP want anyone who had contact with, or saw Laidley, between Jan. 4 and 10 to contact them at 780-992-6100.

Police describe Laidley as a black man, 5-feet-6, weighing 89 kilograms, with black hair and brown eyes.
