Not too early to plan for next civic election
Prior to the last civic election a group of influential business, professional, and concerned Edmontonians sponsored a large advertisement n the Journal endorsing candidate Karen Leibovici for the mayor’s office. Unfortunately, voters opted for charisma and fluff over substance and quality and we ended up with a mayor and council who have blundered from one multimillion dollar boondoggle, at Edmonton taxpayer expense and inconvenience, to the next.
The majority of this left-wing council has repeatedly demonstrated that they couldn’t manage a three-house paper route let alone a modern city. The makeup of the present gang is even worse than that of Stephen Mandel.
I would strongly urge that the same group of small-c conservatives seek out and support qualified men and women who will bring some semblance of fiscal responsibility and rational decision-making to council chambers. Some would argue that such a move would introduce party politics into civic government but the present social engineers who are masquerading as city councillors are already, with two or three exceptions, a slate that could run on any socialist ticket.
It is not too early to begin the process of making sure the mayor and the majority of council never again have the opportunity to grind our city into the dust of their twisted vision of “progress.”
