Saturday Night Live

-

Peter Dinklage is the host of Saturday’s new episode. Dinklage, who plays the complex, acerbic Tyrion Lannister on the HBO hit Game of Thrones, gets most of that series’ funny lines, but how he’ll pan out on SNL? We’ll have to wait and see. The musical guest is Gwen Stefani. (Global)

DEADLY POSSESSIONS

Each one-hour episode of this new series features three of the world’s most haunted items along with their owners. The series is hosted by Zak Bagans, who for years had dreamed of opening a museum in downtown Las Vegas to house these possessions. The premiere includes the story of Robert, the 100-year-old killer doll that inspired the Chucky movies, and the Dibbuk box, the most haunted object in the world. (DTOUR)

CHOPPED CANADA

No prizes for guessing the entree in Saturday’s new episode, Win By a Hare. Crackers are involved in Round 1 and it’s a choice between risk and better-safe-than-sorry for the dessert round. The popular cooking show has just been given the green light for a fourth season of themed specials. (Food Network)

THE FIRST 48: MURDER IN THE FAMILY

The two new one-hour episodes airing Saturday evening begin with Under One Roof, in which a Dallas grandfather is bludgeoned to death in his bedroom during what appears to be the theft of a 26-inch television. That is followed by a woman who is found strangled in a partly burned car in an episode titled Ashes and Snow. (A&E)

MOVIE: MIRROR MIRROR

By far the lighter of the two 2012 takes on the fairy tale, this version from highly visual director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) casts Lily Collins as Snow White. However, the star of the show is Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, who conspires with her servant (Nathan Lane) to get “the fairest of them all” out of her way. Armie Hammer (The Social Network) plays Prince Charming in a cast that also includes Sean Bean and Mare Winningham. (ABC)

ATLANTA PLASTIC

Fans who missed the second season premiere of this Lifetime series earlier in the week can catch a repeat on Lifetime’s sister channel Saturday. The series follows three of Atlanta’s top African-American plastic surgeons, whose clients are ready to look their best by going under the knife. The premiere features a crossover event with two moms from the dance show Bring It, who are looking for everything from tummy tucks to butt lifts. It is called, appropriately enough, Bring It to Atlanta. (Slice)

MOVIE: HARRIET THE SPY: BLOG WARS

Adapted from the popular book series by Louise Fitzhugh, this 2010 TV movie gives a contemporary spin to the title character as Harriet Welsch (Jennifer Stone) competes with her arch-nemesis Marion Hawthorne (Vanessa Morgan) to become her high school class’s official blogger. Kristin Booth, Wesley Morgan and Doug Murray also star. (YTV)

MOVIE: JURASSIC WORLD

The franchise roared back to life with this latest Steven Spielbergproduced chapter, in which the resort’s owners try to goose attendance by introducing a new hybrid creature. What could possibly go wrong? Chris Pratt is enjoyable as a motorcycleriding “dinosaur whisperer” with Bryce Dallas Howard as an ambitious executive who’s hosting her nephews at the site when mayhem erupts anew; BD Wong, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson and Judy Greer also appear in the 2015 film.
