Educating the exceptional

E2 Academy provides a safe, accepting environment for a unique population of students

-

E2 Academy is unlike any other school. Our promise is to use our individualized, strength-based program to educate a unique population of students.

Twice-exceptional (2e) students are children with extraordinary intellectual or creative potential in one or more areas, but who are challenged by academic, attentional and/or social challenges. These gifted or highly-gifted students haven’t been able to fit into a traditional classroom and are in a state of constant stress. Some cope by hiding their gifts and challenges to appear average. Many, but not all, have a formal diagnosis such as ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, visual/ auditory/sensory processing disorder, anxiety or other learning disability.

In a traditional setting, 2e children are often labelled as unmotivated, lazy, or an underachiever because they appear disengaged. The complex ways in which their gifts and their differences interact often leads to their strengths being unrecognized and undeveloped.

These children are among the most vulnerable students in the education system. Our approach recognizes that they not only think differently, they feel differently. We understand that 2e children may have heightened sensitivities to light, sound and textures and are more prone to emotional challenges such as depression and anxiety.

At E2 Academy, we offer an environment that provides students with a place to feel safe and accepted for all their various intensities and quirks; a place where they can find like minds among peers. It’s a program designed to meet their creative, intellectual, social and emotional needs so that their potential for learning and growth is realized.
