Jason Priestley (Call Me Fitz) stars as a former pro hockey great turned private investigat­or, Matt Shade, in this engaging new Canadian series that’s a welcome throwback to a fondly remembered TV genre. Matt sees this new career path, which teams him with tough boss Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson, Supernatur­al), as a way to redemption from a checkered personal past. In the series premiere, Matt and Angie investigat­e the case of a pro hockey player who suffers a heart attack on the ice. (Global)

Presumed brainiacs must answer a whole lot of questions to increase their winnings and stay in the game, as this quiz show from producers including Mark Burnett (Survivor) returns for Season 2 over five nights. New this time is the host: Dan Harris, the Nightline and weekend Good Morning America co-anchor. The first contestant he puts to the test is Ken Jennings, winner of the most games in the history of Jeopardy! (ABC)

RED NOSE DAY

Long popular in England, this fundraisin­g event — devised by Love Actually writer-director Richard Curtis — reached into America for the first time last year, and many celebritie­s are participat­ing again in the U.S. version. Including comedic and musical segments, the program is aimed at increasing awareness of those in need, an effort that raised more than $23 million in 2015. Among those slated to appear are Liam Neeson, Kristen Bell, Paul Rudd and Julianne Moore. (NBC)

This season’s Tinseltown theme continues in the first of a new two-part episode that finds Archer (voice of H. Jon Benjamin) and the rest of the Figgis Agency crew being hired by a renowned Hollywood director. The staff at Grey House finally gleans some important informatio­n about Alexis (Meghan Heffern), their incredibly high-maintenanc­e guest, in the new episode Risk. At Sam’s (James Denton) office, Grace (Bailee Madison) puts a magical plan in motion that may allay receptioni­st Eve’s (Kate Corbett) fears that she’s about to be replaced. Sam, meanwhile, receives an important job offer that could affect Nick’s (Rhys Matthew Bond) plans to spend a summer abroad. (W)
