Aston Martin’s latest will Vanquish all critics
In case you had your eye on a Vanquish but felt it’s beginning to look a little dated — especially alongside the DB11 — Aston Martin and Zagato have something just for you.
Penned by design teams led by Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman and Andrea Zagato, it’s called the Vanquish Zagato and it’s the fifth creation to come out of the British automaker’s long-standing relationship with the Italian design house. Under the skin, it’s all Vanquish — power still comes from Aston’s angelic 6.0-litre V12 — but visually, Zagato went all out.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the lack of split lines. That’s because many of the carbon-fibre body panels are one-piece designs, eliminating the need for gaps from bumper creases. All told, the design is fairly clean and cohesive, if a little polarizing, though definitely not as polarizing as the V12 Vantage Zagato from 2012.
The Vanquish Zagato also features a new set of lights, drawing inspiration from previous Zagatodesigned Astons, but with a modern twist: the tail lights are made up of the so-called “bladed LED” technology poached from the Vulcan.
Completing the look are design cues such as side mirrors inspired by the One-77 supercar, the “double-bubble” roof featured on many other Zagato Astons, and a rear end sculpted after the DB11, which includes a retractable rear spoiler and a rear hatch. Tying everything together is carbon-fibre trim that runs along the lower portion of the Vanquish Zagato’s body.
Just in case you forgot the Vanquish Zagato was special, the interior features a Z-style stitching pattern on the seats and door panels, along with a stunning red leather interior complemented by carbon fibre and bronze trim bits.
