Shots heard, man found in pool of blood

- CLAIRE THEOBALD

Edmonton police officers are investigating after witnesses said a man was found lying in a pool of blood at the end of a driveway on Friday night.

A tent concealed the scene at 286 Ozerna Rd. in north Edmonton as neighbours discussed the details of what unfolded on the quiet residential street.

Officers, some armed with carbines, kept onlookers at bay for hours.

While police had not confirmed any details, Amjer Lotey, who lives just a few houses away from the crime scene, said it was around 8:40 p.m. when he was startled by the sound of gunfire.

“I heard six gunshots,” said Lotey, describing the sound as a rapid succession of shots.

When Lotey went to investigate, he saw a man lying face down at the end of a driveway.

“He was lying in a pool of blood,” said Lotey.

He said another neighbour saw a black car driving away from the scene.

More details were expected to be released as investigators continued to work the scene on Friday.

Lotey said that, in his eight years living in the area, the community has seen its share of violent crime.

“It’s getting scary in this area,” said Lotey.

He said there was a shooting about five years ago, and a neighbour two doors down from Friday’s scene had their car set on fire just three months ago.
