Stadium name reflects Brick deal

The Green and Gold will be going by a slightly longer name this season, and so will their stadium.

While the football team will be referred to as Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos until further notice, a new five-year naming rights deal will see their home become known as “The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.”

Since the City of Edmonton owns the stadium, the arrangement doesn’t apply during non-Eskimos events, like concerts or soccer games (it will still be Commonwealth Stadium during those) but it’ll be The Brick Field when the Esks are on it, thanks to the marriage of two very successful operations.

“This is the largest corporate partnership that we have ever formed in our long and proud history,” said Eskimos president and CEO Len Rhodes, who wanted to keep terms of the deal private. “With The Brick’s corporate head office located here in Edmonton, this makes us especially proud.”

There is more to the deal than just money and a name change. The new Brickley’s Knothole Corner family area by Gate 2 represents major relaunch and boost for the Knothole Gang tradition.

“The Brick’s commitment to families and the overall community is always apparent, and it led to this wonderful relationship,” said Rhodes.

“This historic partnership allows us to make a major stride in catering to programs that appeal to parents and their children.”

The revamped area will include interactive children’s games, stroller check, face painters, a dedicated family merchandise store, family friendly inflatable games and entertainment every game.

Season tickets in Brickley’s Knothole Corner seating section, located near the family area in the lower bowl, are $60 for children (aged 12 and under) and $220 for adults. Single game tickets range from $12 to $16 for children and $32 to $36 for adults.

As well, a new indoor suite — Brickley’s Clubhouse — on the west concourse will host families from the Stollery Children’s Hospital at every Eskimos game.

“As an Edmonton based company, we are extremely proud of today’s announcement,” said Brick group head of brand and advertising Sheldon Pietrzykowski.

“Brick Field and Brickley’s Knothole Corner will bring a new, exciting family focused experience to Edmonton Eskimos games and events.”
